Chris Koenig

Game Programmer, Game Designer, Game Lover

About Me.

Hello! I'm Chris, a game programmer and designer from rural Georgia. I've been a fan of the gaming medium for about as long as I can remember, but I didn't start making games until I attended the game development summer camps held at the University of Georgia starting in 2017, at which point I fell in love. I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Game Development in 2025. While I primarily specialize in programming and game design, I dabble in just about every aspect of the game development process.

On this site, you will find almost all of the game dev projects I've worked on over the years, ranging from summer camp prototypes to college assignments to personal projects. With each and every one, I always try to push myself to do something new and make something I've never done before, with the goal being to continually round out my skillset and familiarize myself with as many kinds of games as I can.

I was the lead programmer and gameplay engineer for Xolo and the Forgotten Gods, one of the two projects to come out of SCAD's Senior Studio class in 2025. Xolo is an action Metroidvania developed on UE5 and set in old Mesoamerica, in which you play as a xoloitzcuintli who uses his alibrije abilities to aid him in his quest to rescue his owner from Spanish conquistadors.

Being the lead programmer, I had a wide variety of responsibilities that evolved and expanded over the course of development, including:

  • Writing the vast majority of programming for Blueprints and gameplay

  • Creating scalable template systems on the backend to make development simpler and faster

  • Writing/programming the animation Blueprints for character models

  • Playtesting the game and subsequently iterating on code

  • Overseeing version control via Perforce

  • Coordinating with other departments (artists, UI designers, SFX designers, etc.) to bring their assets into the game and working with code

  • Taking charge of getting the game published on Steam

  • Completely rebuilding all menus and adding a settings menu for a post-launch update

Working on Xolo was one of the most fun and enlightening things I've ever done in my time as a game dev. It taught me so much about developing a game with a team, operating and maintaining a code base, and what the full development pipeline is actually like.

You can learn more about the game on our website or our Instagram.
